welcome to our website

The Campaign for Real Ale is a volunteer run consumer campaign organisation that promotes good beer and good pubs along with drinkers rights. We also have a strong social side too.

This is the website for the Sheffield & District branch, here you will find details of what is going on locally in Sheffield and our part of North East Derbyshire and the Peak District. To find out more about CAMRA or to join online, visit the national website at www.camra.org.uk.

STEEL CITY BEER  FESTIVAL

Trevor Wraith off of the Kelham Island Tavern Here at CAMRA we like to campaign positively when we can, and promote those pubs doing things right. We have two competitions - Pub of the month, highlighting those local pubs serving good quality real ale in friendly and comfortable surroundings day in day out, these pubs are nominated by members then voted for or against. Enough positive votes and it wins an award! All the pub of the month winners, along with all the pubs listed in the Good Beer Guide, go through to our pub of the year vote. We have two winners, one in the Yorkshire part of the branch and one in the Derbyshire part.

2009 WINNERS: Kelham Island Tavern and Coach & Horses.

Sheffield CAMRA & Bradfield Brewery tankard

Sheffield is a great city for ale, with some enthusiastic drinkers around the country regarding it as the holy city! We've had National Pub of the year and Champion Beer of Britain in the City. Celebrate with our new limited edition pewter tankards (with glass bottoms) featuring the logo of the branch and of local breweries. The first series, featuring Bradfield Brewery, are now on sale at branch events for just £14.95, and advance orders are now being taken for the second series, featuring Kelham Island Brewery.

A Real Ale Guide to Sheffield Every few years, we publish a local guide called 'A Real Ale Guide to Sheffield' which features all the pubs in the city that serve real ale, along with information on local  breweries and some related articles.

We have now begun work researching a new edition to be published in time for Christmas, we are looking for volunteers to help with this.

In the meantime, there are still some copies of the previous edition available to buy, they are available from selected pubs in the area along with the online shop.

'Beer tax rise means more misery for pub goers'. "It is disappointing that the Chancellor has ignored widespread public concern about the plight of Britain's pubs and decided to press ahead with an increase which will result in yet more valued community pubs closing down. Well-run community pubs are already struggling as a result of last year's 18% increase in beer duty and the recession. This further beer duty increase will push more valued pubs over the edge resulting in job losses, reduced Government tax revenue and many more deprived of their favourite local pub."
