Acorn Brewery’s Darkness Mild is making a come back just in time for Mild Month, and will be available from 21st May.

The latest in their range of American hopped IPAs, the 5th, is Palisade IPA, at 5% ABV. Meanwhile, on the subject of America, Acorn Barnsley Bitter and Old Moor Porter have been selected to feature at the New England Real Ale Exhibition.

Summer Pale (4.1%) is another beer back for May due to popular demand, and will be available both via the free trade and the Siba Direct Delivery Scheme.

Finally, Acorn branded clothing is now available, in both male and female styles - contact the brewery for details.

At Bradfield Brewery, there was much relief when Massey the Shire Horse was returned alive and well, after being stolen from his stable on the farm where the brewery is based. A livery yard keeper in North Yorkshire read about the theft in the Yorkshire Post and realising the horse they had recently bought was in fact Massey, alerted police.

Massey Mild will once again be available during May for Mild Month this year. It’s a fairly dark 3.7% traditional ale with a distinctive bitter taste and malty aroma.

Kelham Island Brewery have supplied their award winning Pale Rider to Wetherspoons across the UK for their International Real Ale Festival, raising the brewery’s profile.

A number of limited edition beers are available from Kelham Island this month.

Reason to Believe at 4% is is produced using a combination of Challenger hops and Halcyon Malt. The result is a mouth watering golden ale that creates an explosion of fabulous flavours.
Here Comes the Sun at 4.2% sees Cascade hops and Marris otter malt fuse together to produce an exciting brand new Ale. There is a distinct floral hop aroma from the inclusion of  Cascade hops and a long, dry hoppy finish.

Finally, Brooklyn Smoked Porter is making a comeback. It’s a strong one at 6.5% which was first brewed in 2006 in conjunction with Garrett Oliver of the Brooklyn Brewery in the USA, which proved very popular!

Abbeydale Brewery is for the first time in many years, and only the second time ever, doing a Mild for May. It will be released under the Beerworks label. It will be available from early May. Clearly it is not a typical Abbeydale beer!

In the brewery itself, work is continuing on the upgrade path with floors being laid for the new fermenting area. This will allow consolidation of the new fermenting vessels into one area and thus free up more room for cask washing and handling and will allow extension of the cold storage area.

Saltaire Brewery is another one that has supplied Wetherspoons’s beer festival, with Amarillo Gold proving a big seller. Also following another success at Wetherspoons outlets, they are brewing more fruit beers such as Blackberry Cascade.

Thwaites have rebranded their Dark Mild to give it a more marketable image. It’s now called Nutty Black.

The brewery at the Wellington pub in Shalesmoor is now in the process of being refitted, and production should commence later this year.
