A walkabout in Broomhill
Broomhill is a 10 minute bus ride from Sheffield City Centre on route 51/52/60, and is like a small town centre in itself. It is an area that is popular with Students during term time, as it is conveniently located between the University of Sheffield’s Hall of Residents and the City Centre.

The Sheffield CAMRA monthly Walkabout - a led pub crawl - in August was in Broomhill, and started at the Fox & Duck, which is owned by the Student Union, and has just re-opened following a refurbishment and was looking very smart. An excellent range of beers could be found here, including some from Abbeydale Brewery. The pub was very busy inside due to a Sheffield Wednesday match on the TV, so we sat out in the beer garden.

Next was the Broomhill Tavern for a pint of Tetley’s Bitter (Marstons Pedigree was also available) and again we chose to escape the crowds and drink outside.

Moving on, it was The Place next. A choice of real ales were available,Beer Festival staffing form and a fun and lively atmosphere was enjoyed. The entertainment was a race night theme, with the DJ playing tunes inbetween of the Commercial Dance variety.

The final pub of the night was the Nottingham House, an ex-Firkin pub, with a much more basic interior. A band was just coming to the end of their set as we arrived. That’s about all I can remember of the Notty House as I was quite drunk at that point, I do remember visiting the rather popular Broomhill Friary afterwards for Kebab and Chips before getting a taxi home though...
